Your journey to the New World has been a long and tedious one thus far. Having made it across the icy Atlantic; spent what seemed an eternity waiting, listlessly for the wind to carry your ship north from Mexico; and only just escaping the wrath of a tropical cyclone in the Caribbean Sea - Florida is just the horizon, finally!


BUT, so too is something else... an ominous looking galleon... one flying the Jolly Roger! As the ship nears, a terrible look of defeat flashes across your captain's face. He knows all too well that there is no chance of outrunning this pirate ship, not the dreaded ship of Calico Jack - the fastest ship to sail the Caribbean Sea, helmed by the bloodthirstiest pirate of them all! Raising the white flag of surrender, suddenly you find yourself the captive of this dastardly pirate and his motley crew.


Now, locked away in the hull of Calico Jack's ship, all hope seems lost. That is until you remember that you're on a pirate ship loaded with treasure! Just think, if you could escape with your pockets full of gold coins, life in the New World would be sweet!

Health & Safety

  • Panic buttons allow you to exit the room early, if need be.
  • You will be monitored on CCTV at all times.
  • You will not be permitted to play if under the influence.
  • Pirates is a controlled lighting environment. It may feature periods of complete darkness and/or flashing lights. 
  • Pirates is suitable for players aged 9 and up. Children from 7 and up may attend as paid guests with family groups


Accessibility Information

Both our Perth venues, CBD and Northbridge, are wheelchair accessible. We welcome adventurers of all abilities to join our crew and experience the thrill of our pirate escape rooms. However, please note that we can accommodate only one wheelchair per session to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants.


For our Sydney CBD and Melbourne CBD venues, we are currently in the process of determining the accessibility features of our escape rooms. We are committed to providing an inclusive experience for all, and we will update this information as soon as it becomes available.

  • How difficult is this pirate escape room?

    Pirates has a difficulty rating of 6/10, so while it's not the most difficult escape room we offer, it is still a significant challenge and a fantastic experience both for new players and seasoned escapers.

  • Is Pirates Wheelchair Accessible?

    Our locations in Perth CBD and Northbridge are both wheelchair accessible, however for safety reasons we can not allow more than one wheelchair per booking.

  • Do I need to play other pirate escape rooms before Pirates?

    No prior knowledge is necessary to enjoy the "Pirates" escape room. Pirates is the first room in our pirate escape rooms series, and is  designed to be accessible to all players.

  • If my child is under 9 years old, can they still play Pirates?

    Children aged 7 years and older are welcome to participate as paid guests in our escape rooms as part of a family group. However, children under the age of 7 years may attend as spectators only, and they will be counted towards the total player numbers in any room for fire safety reasons.

  • How many people can play Pirates at the same time?

    The maximum group size that the Pirates escape room can accomodate is 8 people.


    Our group limits are set to optimise gameplay and ensure a truly immersive experience for all our guests. Fortunately for you, it is company policy to never compromise on your gameplay experience so these limits are NOT flexible! 


    If your group is larger than 8 players we suggest that you book multiple rooms to start at the same time and split your group across the rooms. Thus ensuring the very best experience for everyone in your group.

  • Will our group be playing with strangers?

    At Escape This, all bookings are exclusive to your group. This has always been (and will remain to be) our policy before, during and after Covid.



    If you want to be locked in a room with a group of people you have never met before (some people do!) then we recommend you try another escape room experience provider.

  • How Long Does Pirates Last?

    You will have 60 minutes to escape Captain Calico Jack's Pirate ship.


    However we recommend that you arrive 15 minutes before your start time for orientation and induction procedures. There will also be 15 minutes after the session to catch your breath and debrief.


    Depending on if and how quickly you complete the escape room, your entire session may go for 90 minutes, or it may be shorter.

  • Is Pirates Suitable for First-Time Escapers?

    Newcomers to the world of escape rooms may find "Pirates" to be quite challenging, but fear not! It remains a highly popular choice for first-timers due to its thrilling storyline and engaging puzzles. 


    Rest assured, our experienced gamesmasters will be readily available to provide any extra clues or assistance you may require along the way. So, yes, "Pirates" is indeed a great choice for your inaugural escape room experience!
